FAQ

Do You Accept Insurance?

M2 Metabolic Medicine does not participate with/or bill insurance. You may pay by check, credit card, or HSA debit card. Upon request, we can provide you with a copy of the superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network care. The superbill is a detailed medical receipt that contains procedure codes, diagnosis codes, and the fees charged for your office visit. We cannot guarantee what reimbursement, if any, you may receive. We do not submit claims or call insurance companies directly. This is the responsibility of the patient.

M2 Metabolic Medicine does not participate with Medicare, nor do we bill Medicare for any services rendered. A patient can NOT submit superbills to Medicare for possible reimbursement.

Why Don’t You Accept Insurance?

Unfortunately, when doctors participate with insurance plans, they enter into a contract that allows the insurance companies to dictate what services will be supplied, limiting the quality of care that is provided. As a functional medicine practice, the primary goal is to provide you with the highest quality care tailored to your unique needs. This approach requires more time and personalized attention than what is feasible using insurance reimbursement.  Many functional medicine patients have complex health histories and chronic disease. They are not served  well with rushed clinician visits and doctors who are unavailable because they are completing paperwork and chart documentation to satisfy insurance companies.

Patients at M2 Metabolic Medicine can still use their insurance for routine lab work and other diagnostic testing if it is determined they have the diagnostic codes to support testing for insurance. For patients who do not have good testing coverage or others with no insurance, M2 Metabolic Medicine has negotiated low cost cash laboratory testing options and these will be offered to patients at the time of service. For advanced and innovative lab and diagnostic testing, these are generally not covered by insurance but many patients elect to proceed depending on their specific health goals. If you require any medications to assist with your treatment these will be ordered and filled under your medical insurance. M2 Metabolic Medicine believes in transparent pricing for all services and the goal is to foster a clear and honest relationship regarding your healthcare investment.

Do You Offer Payment Plans?

No, M2 Metabolic Medicine does not offer any payment plans at this time.

Who is a typical M2 Metabolic Medicine patient?

Anybody who wants to take control of their own health! Patients vary in complexity, health goals and fall into many categories. Functional medicine helps patients with complex chronic disease such as autoimmune disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease, arthritis, ulcerative colitis, cancer, thyroid disease, depression and anxiety (to name a few). Functional medicine can also help those patients who have not found relief with a conventional medicine to approach their disease. The goal is healing from the inside out by using conventional medicine, natural remedies, dietary changes and other integrative therapies to achieve a holistic approach. M2 Metabolic Medicine will collaborate with the patient’s primary care physician and specialists as a vital part of the health care team.

M2 Metabolic Medicine also assists patients who are otherwise healthy, but just “don’t feel right”. These patients may have seen multiple doctors, and their labs are all normal, however they are still plagued with fatigue, insomnia, mood disorders, brain fog etc. We use our advanced diagnostic testing to get to the underlying cause of these issues. In addition, M2 Metabolic medicine can help with weight management, menopause symptoms and hormone therapy for patients.

What do treatments entail?

Foundational treatments focus on lifestyle intervention, nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress reduction and optimization of relationships.  Herbals and nutraceuticals/supplements may be prescribed to help support the body, based on personalized needs and testing. Prescription medication may be prescribed as well, depending on disease and symptom severity. This truly holistic approach incorporates both eastern and western medical principles. The goal is long-lasting health improvements rather than temporary fixes.

Are you my primary physician?

M2 Metabolic medicine offers functional medicine consultation which is not a replacement for your primary care physician. You still need a primary care physician for routine care plus urgent/emergent evaluations of new problems, yearly physicals including gynecologic care and immunizations. We are not equipped to manage urgent medical requests of any sort, including messages or phone calls. These must be directed to your primary care physician or local urgent or emergency care center.
